Advice for Travel launched in 2025 with a single founding premise: travel advice is most useful when it comes from people who have actually been to the places they write about, dealt with the visa applications they describe, stayed in the accommodation they recommend, and navigated the airports and borders they cover.
This page introduces the team, explains our editorial approach, and describes exactly how we decide what to write, how we research it, and what our relationship with affiliate commissions and advertising is. We believe transparency about these things is part of being a site worth trusting.

Advice for Travel is written by a small team. Our bylines are the names you see on our guides, and we stand behind the content published under them.

Our Editorial Approach
We write about what we know from direct experience
Every destination guide on this site is written by a team member who has personally visited, spent meaningful time in, and can speak to the actual experience of that place. If none of our team has been somewhere, we do not publish a destination guide about it. This is a constraint that limits how many destinations we can cover; we think it is the right constraint.
For practical guides (visa requirements, health and vaccination information, safety advisories), we supplement personal experience with primary source research: government immigration authority websites, the World Health Organisation, the FCDO, and other authoritative sources. We link to these sources so you can verify what we cite.
We are honest about limitations and trade-offs
The most useful travel advice describes limitations honestly alongside attractions. A destination guide that makes every place sound equally wonderful for every type of traveller is not useful, it is marketing. We aim to give you our genuine assessment of what a destination is good for, who it suits well, and who might be better served by a different choice.
The same applies to gear and services. If a product has significant limitations alongside its genuine strengths, we describe both. If a loyalty programme sounds impressive but delivers limited real-world value, we say so. If a booking platform is convenient but more expensive than alternatives for your situation, we tell you.
We update our content
Travel information changes quickly. Visa requirements change, prices change, businesses close, safety situations evolve. We review and update our guides regularly, and we note at the top of each guide when it was last updated so you can assess its currency. If you find information that is outdated or incorrect, please tell us at contact@advice4travel.com; corrections are acted on immediately.

Affiliate commissions
Some links on this site are affiliate links, meaning that if you click through and make a purchase, we may receive a small commission at no additional cost to you. We disclose these arrangements because we think transparency about them is part of being a trustworthy site.
The presence or absence of an affiliate arrangement has no influence on our editorial recommendations. We only link to products and services we would recommend regardless of whether an affiliate programme exists. We do not recommend things because they have an affiliate programme; we add affiliate links to things we already recommend.
Advertising
We do not accept paid advertising placements, sponsored content that is presented as editorial content, or payment from hotels, airlines, tour operators, or destinations in exchange for coverage or positive editorial treatment. If any of this changes, we will disclose it prominently.
Guest contributions
We accept a small number of guest contributions from writers with specific expertise in areas we do not cover directly. Guest contributions are subject to the same editorial standards as team-written content: the writer must have direct personal experience of the subject matter, the content must be accurate and specific rather than generic, and we do not accept guest content for payment or in exchange for links. What We Are Not
We are not a comprehensive travel guide to every destination in the world. We cover destinations our team has visited and can write about honestly. We add destinations as we travel to them, which means our coverage grows slowly but consistently.
We are not a booking agency. The accommodation and flight recommendations in our guides are genuinely our recommendations; we do not take bookings, manage itineraries, or provide travel agent services.
We are not a news site. We do not cover breaking travel news, live flight disruptions, or real-time visa changes; for these you need official government sources and news services. Our guides cover the stable, enduring information that helps you plan and travel well.

The site was launched in 2025 with a small team and a specific focus on quality over quantity. We cover fewer destinations than many comparable sites, and we believe the coverage we do provide is more useful as a result. Adding destinations will happen as the team visits them, not as a content strategy to capture more search traffic from places we have not been.
For anyone considering contributing to the site as a guest writer, the requirements are on the Write For Us page. The essential requirement is direct personal experience of the subject matter. We do not commission research-based content about destinations the writer has not visited, we do not accept content written primarily for SEO purposes, and we do not accept content that promotes specific commercial interests in exchange for coverage.
